🧩 Horror Story #2 – A $1 Market Toy Triggers a $2,000 Lawsuit
This is one of the most ridiculous examples out there.
A seller in Mexico listed a small plastic figure of The Crow, bought for $1 USD at a local market swap.
A few weeks later, his PayPal and eBay accounts were frozen by court order, and he received a $2,000 settlement demand from a U.S. law firm claiming trademark infringement.
This seller didn’t make thousands. He didn’t even know he’d done anything wrong.
But the lawsuit still came — hard and fast — with threats of court action and account termination.
Several users on the eBay forum told him to “just pay the $2,000” or “hire a lawyer before it gets worse.”
💡 Here’s the Truth
🚫 Not every lawsuit like this has a valid legal basis.
⚠️ Paying the settlement isn’t always the only option.
✅ Understanding the process can make all the difference.
Stories like this show exactly why I wrote Defend Yourself from Schedule A Lawsuits.
Too many small sellers are scared into paying settlements they may not even owe — simply because they don’t know how the process works or what their rights are.
